Burnt City (Shahr-e Sukhteh)
The Burnt City, (Shahr-e Sukhteh) dating back to 5,000 years ago, is considered one of the oldest civilizations in the world. Based on archaeological findings, this site is among the world’s ancient civilizations. It is located on high hills, between 12 to 18 kilometers in height, between the Hamun and Hirmand rivers. Visiting this area, you’ll encounter a large museum and a desert, each corner of which hides a treasure.
The Burnt City was one of the largest cities in ancient Iran and one of the most important civilizations of Eastern Iran’s plateau. It is also known by other names such as the “City of Art,” due to the discovery of significant artistic works and handicrafts (including the world’s first animation on a cup), and the “City of Science,” because of the outstanding scientific discoveries, particularly in the field of medicine (like the artificial eye, a ruler made of ebony, and an ancient backgammon board with 60 pieces).
