Lar Plain in Iran, located on the border of Tehran and Mazandaran provinces, is a scenic destination near Tehran known for its unspoiled natural beauty. Also referred to as Lar National Park, it’s a protected area with restricted hunting, famed for its wild poppy fields. In spring, the plain is covered in red poppies and various flowers. Attractions include Lar Dam and Lake, stunning views of Mount Damavand, waterfalls, rivers, mountains, and picturesque landscapes.
Lar Plain boasts a rich variety of flora, including medicinal and edible plants like thyme, garlic, and wild mushrooms. It’s home to a diverse range of animals and plants typical of the central Alborz region. Notably, the Lar River and Lake are habitats for the protected red-spotted trout. Wildlife such as foxes, wolves, brown bears, leopards, wild boars, deer, and eagles can be observed here. The Damavand and Alborz vipers, endemic to this region, are also found here.
