Persian Gardens, Poetry & Inner Reflection

One of the distinctive elements of this retreat is the connection between yoga, nature and Persian cultural traditions.

Eram Garden is one of the historic Persian gardens associated with the UNESCO World Heritage property known as The Persian Garden. Water channels, trees, flowers, shade and carefully planned spaces create an environment traditionally designed around beauty, balance and contemplation.

The cultural experience continues with visits to Hafez’s Tomb and Saadi’s Tomb in Shiraz.

Hafez and Saadi are two of the most influential Persian poets associated with the city. Their poetry explores themes including love, human nature, wisdom, spirituality, compassion and inner reflection.

For yoga practitioners, these visits offer another cultural perspective on ideas that often appear in contemplative practices: awareness, presence, reflection and connection.

Selected passages from Persian poetry may be introduced during the retreat, creating a natural connection between movement, meditation and Persian ideas of inner reflection.

The aim is not to present Persian poetry as yoga. Instead, the poetry adds a cultural dimension to a retreat already centered around mindfulness, movement and reflection.

Nature Around Shiraz

This retreat combines the cultural atmosphere of Shiraz with easy access to nearby natural landscapes.

Maharloo Lake
A seasonal salt lake southeast of Shiraz with a wide, open landscape and changing colors.
Eram Garden
A historic Persian garden with water, trees, flowers and shaded paths.
Qalat Village
A mountain village with narrow paths, gardens, springs and traditional rural architecture.
Zagros Foothills
Mountain scenery, fresh air and easy walking routes close to Shiraz.

Maharloo is a seasonal lake, and its appearance changes according to water level, evaporation, rainfall and other natural conditions. Its famous pink or reddish tones should therefore not be considered guaranteed.

Local Food & Persian Hospitality

Food is part of the cultural experience throughout the retreat.

Meals introduce you to traditional Persian flavors and everyday ingredients rather than a separate international wellness menu.

Fresh Herbs
An essential part of many traditional Persian meals.
Homemade Yogurt
Often served alongside Persian dishes.
Seasonal Produce
Fresh ingredients that change with the season.
Persian Tea
A daily social ritual enjoyed during relaxed conversations.
Home-Style Cooking
Selected meals introduce you to familiar Persian flavors prepared locally.

Vegetarian and vegan meals can be arranged with advance notice.

What You Actually Experience

This retreat is built around small experiences rather than a long list of attractions.

You may begin the morning surrounded by garden trees and the sound of flowing water, drink Persian tea during a conversation with a local host, walk through a Zagros village or sit quietly at Hafez’s Tomb while hearing Persian poetry.

In spring, you may notice the scent of orange blossoms around Shiraz. In autumn, the mountain air becomes cooler and more comfortable for walking and outdoor practice.

The combination of yoga, Persian culture and everyday local experiences creates a very different atmosphere from a conventional resort-based yoga retreat.

Yoga, Persian Poetry & the Shiraz Experience

This is not a conventional resort retreat.

Over five days, yoga becomes part of a wider journey through Shiraz and its surrounding landscapes: practicing in Persian gardens, meditating beside a seasonal lake, walking through the Zagros foothills and discovering the poetry and cultural traditions of Hafez and Saadi.

The result is a slower way to experience Shiraz, where yoga, nature, Persian hospitality and cultural discovery become part of the same journey.
