Tour Overview

This 7-day yoga and nature retreat in northern Iran takes you from the Alborz Mountains into the forests and highlands of the Caspian region, combining daily yoga and meditation with forest walks, mountain landscapes, village life, local food, and the wetlands of the Caspian coast.

Rather than staying inside a dedicated wellness resort, you travel through real landscapes and communities. You’ll practice yoga in peaceful natural settings, walk through the green forests of Gilan and Talesh, spend time in the highlands around Masal, experience the atmosphere of Anzali Wetland, and finish in Rasht, a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy.

The retreat is designed around a slow and comfortable rhythm. Yoga and meditation are an important part of each day, but there is also time for walking, local food, photography, reading, conversation, and simply enjoying the landscape.

Best Time to Join

The most comfortable periods for this retreat are generally April to June and September to October. These months offer a good balance for forest walks, mountain landscapes, outdoor yoga, and time in the Caspian lowlands.

Northern Iran has a humid climate, and rain is part of the landscape rather than an unusual event. Conditions can change quickly in the mountains, so the itinerary may be adjusted when necessary to keep outdoor activities comfortable and safe.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

DAY 1 — Tehran & Alborz Mountains

Arrive in Tehran and meet your guide before travelling north toward the Alborz Mountains.

As the city gradually gives way to mountain landscapes, the atmosphere of the journey changes. After arriving at your mountain accommodation, there is time to settle in before a gentle yoga and meditation session designed to help you recover from the journey.

The evening is relaxed, with a welcome dinner and an introduction to the days ahead.

Accommodation: Mountain Lodge

DAY 2 — Hyrcanian Forests & Forest Bathing

Begin the day with morning yoga surrounded by the landscape of northern Iran.

After breakfast, head into the forest for a slow guided walk. The emphasis is not on covering distance but on experiencing the forest through its sounds, vegetation, changing light, and atmosphere.

The Hyrcanian Forests form one of the world’s important ancient temperate forest regions. Their history stretches back roughly 25 to 50 million years, and the UNESCO World Heritage property protects selected component areas across northern Iran and Azerbaijan.

There is time in the afternoon to rest, read, take photographs, or simply enjoy the quiet surroundings before an evening meditation session.

Accommodation: Forest Eco-Lodge

DAY 3 — Masal Highlands & Mountain Life

Today you travel deeper into the mountain landscapes around Masal.

The road climbs through increasingly open landscapes, with forested slopes giving way to meadows and highland scenery. Depending on weather conditions, clouds can settle across the mountains and create the atmosphere for which the region is known.

Practice yoga in a peaceful mountain setting before a gentle walk through the highlands.

There is also time to experience the everyday side of mountain life and enjoy locally prepared food.

Accommodation: Mountain Eco-Lodge

DAY 4 — Waterfalls & Slow Forest Walking

Begin with yoga and breathing exercises before heading onto forest trails.

Today’s experience focuses on slow walking and time beside water. Rather than treating the forest as a hiking challenge, the pace allows you to stop, listen, photograph, and enjoy the changing landscape.

Where conditions permit, continue toward a waterfall or natural water feature for a quiet meditation session.

The afternoon is deliberately less structured. You can rest, journal, read, or simply spend time outdoors.

Accommodation: Forest Eco-Lodge

DAY 5 — Talesh Forests & Mountain Nature

Today explores the forested landscapes around Talesh, where the Alborz Mountains meet the humid Caspian region.

After morning yoga, take a guided nature walk through the forest and learn about the vegetation and changing landscapes of the region.

The experience is deliberately different from a conventional sightseeing day. There are no long lists of monuments to visit. Instead, the focus is on walking, breathing, observing, and understanding the environment around you.

Weather permitting, finish the day with a gentle outdoor meditation session.

Accommodation: Forest Lodge

DAY 6 — Anzali Wetland & Rasht

Leave the mountain landscapes and travel toward the Caspian lowlands.

Visit Anzali Wetland, an internationally important wetland near Bandar Anzali. The Ramsar site covers around 19,500 hectares and includes freshwater lagoon habitats, reed beds, aquatic vegetation, and important habitats for migratory waterbirds.

A boat experience can be arranged according to local conditions and water levels.

Continue to Rasht, the capital of Gilan Province and a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy since 2015. The city’s food culture is closely connected with the agricultural products and culinary traditions of the Caspian region.

Spend the evening discovering the atmosphere of Rasht and enjoy a final dinner featuring regional cuisine.

Accommodation: Boutique Hotel

DAY 7 — Final Yoga & Departure

Start the final morning with a gentle yoga and meditation session.

After breakfast, there is time for a final walk or relaxed exploration of Rasht, depending on your departure schedule.

Your journey ends with a transfer for your onward journey.

Departure: Rasht

What You’ll Actually Experience

This retreat is not simply a yoga programme placed inside a sightseeing tour.

You’ll notice the difference in the rhythm of the days. Instead of moving between major attractions from morning until evening, there are periods when the only plan is to walk through the forest, sit beside the water, drink tea, talk with local people, or enjoy the landscape.

Northern Iran also feels very different from the image many first-time visitors have of Iran. The Caspian region is humid, heavily vegetated, and agricultural, with forests climbing into the Alborz Mountains and villages scattered through the landscape.

For travelers choosing between a conventional cultural tour and a wellness-focused experience, this journey offers a way to experience Iran more slowly and through nature rather than monuments alone.

Local Food & Caspian Culture

Food is one of the strongest parts of travelling through Gilan.

The region is known for rice, herbs, vegetables, fish, dairy products, olives, seasonal produce, and a distinctive cooking tradition that is different from the food of central and southern Iran.

In Rasht, this culinary culture is especially visible. UNESCO recognizes Rasht as a Creative City of Gastronomy, with local food traditions closely connected to the region’s agricultural resources and cultural heritage.

Vegetarian meals can be arranged, but travelers should tell us about dietary requirements before arrival so meals can be planned appropriately.

Practical Things to Know

  • Clothing: Iran has a modest dress code in public spaces. Comfortable, loose-fitting layers work well for both sightseeing and yoga.
  • Rain: Northern Iran is considerably wetter than much of the country. A lightweight waterproof jacket is strongly recommended, especially in spring and autumn.
  • Walking: Most activities are designed to be manageable, but forest and mountain paths can be uneven, muddy, or slippery after rain.
  • Shoes: Comfortable walking shoes with good grip are more useful than heavy hiking boots for most of the itinerary.
  • Weather: Mountain weather can change quickly. Outdoor yoga, walks, and other activities may be moved or adjusted when conditions require it.
  • Yoga equipment: Bring your preferred mat if you have one. Let us know in advance if you need help arranging equipment.
  • Fitness: This is not an intensive trekking tour, but you should be comfortable walking on uneven natural paths for several hours when required.
  • Daily rhythm: This is a cultural wellness journey rather than an intensive yoga camp. Rest and personal time are intentionally part of the experience.
