From Bojnurd to Sabzevar
The mountain of a thousand mosques in the northeast of Iran gathers beautiful cities around it, and we plan to see all of them in a five-day trip.
5 Days
Day 1: Bojnord - Golestan National Park
We embark from Bojnurd, setting our sights on the vicinity of Golestan National Park, a journey filled with the promise of discovery. Bojnurd, with its treasures like Baba Aman Park, Besh Ghardash Park, Mofakham Mansion, and Aspakhu Fire Temple, lays the groundwork for an enriching experience. Our route to Quchan will take us through Chenaran, Shirvan, and Faruj, showcasing the diversity of the region. The night will be spent in Quchan, preparing us for the day ahead.
Day 2: Quchan - Tax Collectors
Our day in Quchan starts with a visit to the city’s anthropological museum, followed by historical sites such as Robat Sahlabad and Hamam Shazdeh. We then proceed to Bajgiran, a town at the very edge of Iran’s border with Turkmenistan, known for its vibrant border market. Here, you’ll find Turkmen fabrics and handicrafts, a testament to the city’s historical role as a hub for caravans and travelers. We recommend staying the night in Shamkhal to explore the beautiful Shamkhal Valley.
Day 3: Dargaz - Kalat Naderi
On the third day, we journey towards Dargaz and Kalat Naderi. Dargaz welcomes us with the Tandoureh Protected Area and the Chehel Mir promenade, offering a natural respite before diving into the area’s rich history at the Bandian Archaeological Site. Moving on to Naderi Kalat, we enter a realm steeped in the legacy of Nader Shah Afshar, with attractions such as the Khurshid Mansion, Nader Dam, and the enchanting Qare Su Waterfall. A night in Kalat sets the stage for our next destination.
Day 4: Mashhad
Our fourth day takes us to Mashhad, starting with the sacred shrine of Imam Reza (AS), a spiritual center for pilgrims. Here, we’ll immerse ourselves in the shrine’s surrounding attractions, including museums and historical sites. For lunch, we’ll enjoy the local cuisine, offering a taste of Mashhad’s culinary delights. The afternoon could be spent shopping or exploring Koohsangi Mountain Park, before retiring to a hotel in Mashhad for the night.
Day 5: Neyshabur - Sabzevar
Departing from Mashhad, we head to Neyshabur, the city of turquoise stones, where the legacies of Attar, Khayyam, and Kamal al-Molk await. Neyshabur’s wooden village and the ancient site of Shadiakh offer further insights into the region’s rich cultural tapestry. Our final stop is Sabzevar, just an hour away from Neyshabur, where you have the option to stay the night in Neyshabur or continue to Sabzevar, marking the end of our journey through this historically and culturally rich region.
