Day 1: Lorestan's History and Nature
Lorestan is a land of water and waterfalls, but it’s a shame to go to Lorestan and not get to know the history and culture of Lore’s brave men and lionesses. So pack your travel bags for an all-round trip to Lorestan.
Our journey starts from the center of this province, Khorramabad. The most famous attraction in the city is the Flak Ala Flak Castle in the center of the town. Take enough time to visit the castle to enjoy the fun and relaxing atmosphere around it and to overcome the slope of the entrance to the court quickly. The Anthropology Museum and Archeology Museum inside the castle are ready to welcome you. After visiting the museum, you can go to the handicraft stalls in the outer yard and buy gold and matte as souvenirs. Some other old buildings can be seen around the castle, also known as Golestan Garden or Eram Garden. The most famous building in the garden is the building of the old Lorestan University and the army officers’ club, which was left over from the first Pahlavi period.
As mentioned, the castle is in the city’s center before the old Khorramabad market. Be sure to visit the city’s traditional call to make different purchases and get to know a part of the city’s culture.
While you are in the market, visit the bathroom. This bathhouse is right next to the market and close to the castle, and after the renovation, it has become a traditional coffee house and restaurant. Having tea or food in this large bathhouse, which is why it is called Gap (gap means big), completes your city center tour.
After lunch, you should go to other sights of the city. Akhund Abu house, also known as Jahangard house, is one of the town’s historic houses, and the view of Flakaflak Castle from inside the courtyard of this house is spectacular.
Of course, the calmness around Lake Kio, which in the heart of the city has given Khorramabad an extra beauty, is one of the obligations of your tour today.
One of the most attractive things to do in Khoramabad at night is to go to the city’s rooftop. From the roof of Khorramabad, you can see the whole city in one view and get to know the attractive and lively atmosphere of the people at night. To visit the roof, take enough warm clothes so the cold does not hinder your enjoyment.
Day 2: Land of Waterfalls and Mountains
Today, until noon, we have three good suggestions for you: a stone whirlpool, a brick minaret or a brick minaret, and a broken bridge, also known as Shapuri Bridge. A tour of the Shahabad neighborhood of Khorramabad will be memorable, especially if the Shahabad spring is full of water; it will remind you of Venice!
After lunch, go to the beautiful Velvet Mountain on the outskirts of Khorramabad and end the day in the velvet lap of this beautiful forest park.
Day 3: Journey to Pol Dokhtar and Immersion in History and Nature
After two memorable days in Khorramabad, we will now leave for Poldekhtar.
Passing Cham Divan, the road follows the Karkhe River and twists and turns until it reaches the city. The historical and mighty Kalhor bridge remains on the Karkhe River beside the main road.
After passing through, next to one of the bends of the main road, you will reach one of the region’s most beautiful and lively waterfalls, which is formed next to Afarineh village. You can park your car and take a short and simple walk to the waterfall to see the Afarineh waterfall.
Further on, before reaching the city of Pol Dekhter, you will get one of Iran’s most significant historical bridges. The girl’s bridge, under which the road passes, has an unforgettable awe.
As you noticed, this road near the beautiful Karkheh is not a good place for high speed, and you should cross it with pleasure. Stop wherever you see a beautiful view and rest next to the oak forests. There is no rush, and we will stay in Pol Dokhtar tonight.
Day 4: Khazine Valley Expedition and Finale
Today, you have a different nature tour. It is a unique program, and we will see one of Iran’s most beautiful natural landscapes, which compares it with the Grand Canyon of America. The destination is Khazineh Valley, which is about an hour away from Pol Dokhtar, and to reach it, you have to go south through the Andimeshk road.
But before reaching the valley, passing through Majin and right on the border of Lorestan and Ilam provinces, you will get Valiasr Wetlands—two lagoons with a high hill between them. Reeds surround wetlands and have a breathtaking view.
After visiting Valiasr Wetlands, move towards Khozaineh Valley next to the village of the same name. After passing through Khazineh village, you have to park your car, and with a short walk from the main road, you will reach the most famous part of this attraction, the giant horseshoe bend like the Karkhe River. The view in front of you becomes spectacular, especially in spring when the river is full of water. The combination of wild mountains, deep valleys and expansive rivers will captivate you with the awe of nature and the power of its creator.
You can end this trip here and at the peak, or if you have enough time, continue to the beautiful Andimeshk and Dezful, or return the road to Pul Dekhter and choose the next destination, Dereshahr Valley in the beautiful province of Ilam.
