Day 1: Tehran to Sari by Train
Tehran:
The city of Tehran is the capital of Iran and is located on the southern slopes of the Alborz mountain range at an altitude of 900
Sari:
The city of Sari is the capital of Mazandaran province, located in the foothills of the Alborz mountain range and the south of the Caspian Sea.
Iran is known as the land of four seasons, and without a doubt, climate diversity is the most crucial advantage of Iran’s natural attractions compared to many countries in the world. In Iran, we can reach from the plain to the forest and from the mountain to the sea within a few hours. Now add another attraction to this spectacular combination: the train!
Northern Railway, or Northern Train, allows you to organize a cheap two—day trip g from the capital and end at the Caspian Sea. Just go to Tehran railway station. Every day several trains go from Tehran to the north of Iran and the cities of Firouzkoh, Pol Sefid, Sari and Gorgan, but you should look for the bus or coach train from Tehran to Sari that leaves Tehran early in the morning. Traveling by day train would help because all the sights can be visited in daylight.
The train passes through the suburbs of Tehran early in the morning, and in the two famous plains of Simindasht and Zarindasht, you will encounter the strange shapes of the land. The colorful veins of the earth and the erosion of the mountain next to the orchards will bring you to Bon-e-Koh station.
A beautiful valley called Kobuter Dareh and a station with the same name you will soon enter. You haven’t reached Firouzkoh yet, and Mahabad station will surprise you! The famous city of Mahabad is located in West Azarbaijan province, which is similar to the name.
Passing by Firouzkoh station, you suddenly say goodbye to the vast and beautiful plains and enter the wild mountain of Alborz. In the same vicinity, you will see the cave of Espahbad Khurshid in the heart of the hill.
The passage of the northern Iranian railway through the Alborz mountains and the construction of this route constitute an essential part of the contemporary history of Iran, and you are practically walking in the middle of history. This historical journey is completed by crossing the famous Vresk bridge and reaching the Vresk station because the station building has preserved its signs from the past.
You pass the Gadok pass and the three gold lines and enter the Swadkoh area. The most important station in this area is the white bridge, which you will gradually feel the north and the vegetation that has become greener than before and will lead you to the forest.
This railway continues to Gorgan, but Sari is your final stop on this journey. Since Sari is the province’s capital, suitable guesthouses and hotels are available for your overnight stay. Still, since you are going to a tourist city, booking your accommodation in advance is suggested.
Day 2: Sari's Coastal Charm
From the Sari train station to the shore of the Caspian Sea, you have about 30 kilometers to go. This beautiful beach, Khazarabad, contains works as old as the Safavid era. Abbasid palace, bathhouse and mosque are historical attractions of Khazarabad.
The northern train tour is over. To return to Tehran, you can use the Sari compartment train to Tehran, which departs at night and arrives in Tehran early in the morning.
